Vine drinking in Mediterranean have ruts from ancient times. It was consumed even much before Antic Greece or Great Roman Empire. Vine culture is older then many modern European cultures and civilizations. Croatian nation is not exception. We accepted vine soonest we appear on this spaces in 7th centaury. Strong vine culture is still present in Croatia. Here consuming vine is not just a habit, and even less some part of a fancy lifestyle or just occasional pleasure. Vine for us is a part of everyday life. Croatian vine production have very long tradition, but unfortunately under unhappy historical circumstances, economical and political crises, vine production was pushed out on margins. Even we have some fabulous vines, they been hidden from worldwide market. New generation of Croatian vine producers is on a good track to change that. No more forgotten and abandoned vineyards! Renaissance of Croatian vines restarted!
Members of our family are born with vine in blood. That’s why we have to present you some of the best we tasted. Will be too much to list all good Croatian vines. Here will be mentioned only Dalmatian vines. We’re proud to say that most of those are coming from Dubrovnik province.
   Dingač is most famous Croatian red vine. Dingač is strong full-boded vine, perfect with meat dishes, pršut and domestic cheeses. It’s prodact of peninsula Pelješac, situated 30 km from Dubrovnik.
Postup is coming from same place as Dingač. It have almost same characteristics. It’s just, bit lighter then Dingač.
  Plavac is a name for vines made of Plavac Mali sort of grape. Sort is widely spreeded in Pelješac, Islands of Korčula and Hvar. Villa Mar vine source is Plavac from village Kuna – Pelješac. Some well-known names are Plavac Mali from Pelješac and Zlatan Plavac from Island Hvar.

Dubrovnik’s Malvasia is newly recovered authentic sort of white grape, almost disappeared during turbulent history. It is expensive vine with still limited production, but if you are vine lover don’t miss Dubrovnik’s Malvasia. Vineyards are placed in Konavle just 15 km from Dubrovnik.
Pošip and Grk are excellent authentic white vines from Island of Kočula. They are ideal vines for Fish and seafood meals. Their vineyards look like those in Primošten, monument of hard human work and vine passion. Open photo Kočula vineyard!
Zlatan Otok dry white vine from Island of Hvar. Fit perfectly with oysters and shells. Generally most of white vines from islands of Hvar and Korčula are very good.
Hint: Croatian vines are most usually named same as a sort of grape or place of origin. If you are interested we will be glad to help you to choose vine from best houses.
Suggestion: Avoid drinking red vine with seafood and fish if you can. White vines fit much better. Generally red vines are better with most of meat dishes.  
Believe or not: Croatia has more authentic sorts of grape then a France!
News: Croatian Vine Institute manage to prove that famous Californian grape Zinfandel is actually forgotten Croatian authentic sort Plavac Kaštelanski. Sorry Napa Valley for losing only authentic sort U think U have!
